OPEN SOURCE DATA INFRASTRUCTURE

Tools for your data infrastructure

Deploy PostgreSQL, store objects, manage packages, and test locally. Find the purpose, documentation, and source code for each project.

FLAGSHIP PROJECTS

Six projects, distinct purposes

Tools for deployment, storage, packages, metrics, and test environments. Use them independently or combine them around your needs.

PG DISTRIBUTION

Pigsty

A complete PostgreSQL distribution with automated deployment, high availability, monitoring, and extensions.

Use it for: Deploying and operating PostgreSQL on your own servers or cloud virtual machines.

Apache-2.0 · Ansible
curl -fsSL https://repo.pigsty.io/get | bash

OBJECT STORAGE

Silo

An S3-compatible object storage server maintained as a MinIO fork, with a console and release packages.

Use it for: Providing an S3-compatible storage endpoint on infrastructure you manage.

AGPL-3.0 · Go
docker pull pgsty/silo

PACKAGE MANAGER

PIG

A command-line package manager for installing PostgreSQL and its extensions across supported Linux distributions.

Use it for: Preparing PostgreSQL environments and managing database extension packages.

Apache-2.0 · Go
curl -fsSL https://repo.pigsty.io/pig | bash

VIRTUAL MACHINES

Barn

A local lightweight VM tool for macOS and Linux, building reproducible multi-node lab environments.

Use it for: Spin up local lightweight VMs to test multi-node database clusters.

Apache-2.0 · Go
brew install pgsty/infra/barn

REPO MANAGER

SOW

A repository manager for RPM and DEB packages, featuring repository indexing and incremental publishing.

Use it for: Publishing and maintaining Linux package repositories.

Apache-2.0 · Go
sow create ./packages

METRICS EXPORTER

PG Exporter

A Prometheus metrics exporter for PostgreSQL and PgBouncer, with declarative collector configuration.

Use it for: Collecting database metrics for Prometheus monitoring and Grafana dashboards.

Apache-2.0 · Go
docker pull pgsty/pg_exporter

WORKING TOGETHER

From local testing to production

Test changes locally, prepare packages, deploy the cluster, then configure backup and monitoring. Each stage has its own tools and documentation.

01 BARN

Sandbox & Testing

Rapidly spin up lightweight VMs to test topologies and changes safely.

02 SOW & PIG

Package Engineering

Install PostgreSQL and extensions with PIG; publish private APT/YUM repositories with SOW.

03 PIGSTY

Cluster HA Automation

Deploy PostgreSQL, Patroni high availability, and PgBouncer pooling from configuration.

04 SILO

S3 Storage & PITR

Provide S3-compatible backup storage for pgBackRest and PostgreSQL point-in-time recovery.

05 PG EXPORTER

Deep Observability

Collect database and pooler metrics for Prometheus and inspect them in Grafana.

EXTENSIONS & DEVELOPER TOOLS

Tools for specific engineering needs

We also develop, maintain, or contribute to projects for character sets, object storage, WebAssembly, and localization. Each repository documents its scope and maturity.

pgs3

Rust · PostgreSQL Extension · Early Alpha

S3-compatible object storage inside PostgreSQL, keeping objects and metadata in the database. An early alpha project for evaluation.

pgwasm

WebAssembly · SQL Functions · Upstream Fork

Run WebAssembly components inside PostgreSQL and expose them as typed SQL functions. Our fork follows the upstream pgwasm project.

pgnls

Gettext · NLS · PostgreSQL

Chinese translations of PostgreSQL server messages and command-line tools, with tooling to maintain and review localization work.

pgext

Metadata · Catalog · Compatibility

An extension catalog and metadata pipeline for finding PostgreSQL extensions, supported versions, and available packages.

Capslock

Karabiner-Elements · macOS · Keyboard

Keyboard configurations that turn Caps Lock into a modifier for navigation, window control, and developer shortcuts on macOS.

COMMUNITY FOUNDATIONS

Shared resources beyond software

Documentation, connected references, and package repositories help everyone install, understand, and use PostgreSQL.

PGSQL.CC

Chinese PostgreSQL Manuals · Search

Chinese translations of PostgreSQL manuals across versions, with full-text search and version comparisons.

PG.CENTER

Global Knowledge Hub · GUC & SQL

English PostgreSQL documentation hub, version diffs, all GUC configuration parameters, and catalog references.

Knowledge Graph

Graph · Parameters · Catalogs

Connected knowledge graph visualizing the relationships between SQL commands, parameters, functions, and catalogs.

Package Repository

APT & YUM · EL 8–10 · Debian/Ubuntu

RPM and DEB packages for PostgreSQL, extensions, and supporting software, with global and mainland China endpoints.

OINK

Hugo Extended · Local-First Theme

A local-first Hugo Extended documentation theme without an npm build step, used across PGSTY sites.

PGSTY on GitHub

Open Source · Public Repositories

Explore all public repositories, release tags, and discussions. Issues, pull requests, and contributions welcome.

Software you can inspect and evaluate

PGSTY develops and maintains software for PostgreSQL deployment, object storage, package management, monitoring, repository publishing, and local testing. We also contribute to extension and developer tool projects. The links above lead to their source code and documentation.

Start with the relevant project documentation for installation requirements, supported platforms, and releases. For a production deployment, our professional services can help with assessment, implementation, and operational handover.

Project licences and commercial support

Licences vary by project: Pigsty, PIG, pg_exporter, SOW, Barn, and OINK use Apache-2.0; Silo uses AGPL-3.0; pgwasm uses BSD-3-Clause. Contributions, translations, and dependencies retain their applicable terms. Refer to each repository’s licence file for details.

Public documentation, releases, and community discussions are available through the project links. Commercial support is a separate engagement with an agreed scope; availability of open-source software does not create a support or service-level commitment.
